About the Tennis Section
The tennis section at the Cumberland is large and very active.
It caters for all standards of player including juniors, social players,
league players, team players and those who represent their county
and country. The atmosphere within the Cumberland is friendly and
sociable - dining and bar facilities are available 7 days a week and
there are a range of social events through the year including the
Club ball, quiz nights, cocktail parties and live music. To the left
of this page are links providing useful information about the tennis
section including the Club's extensive facilities, Saturday club
afternoon and Wednesday club night, members' junior and adult
leagues, the junior tennis programme and the Club's coaches, teams,
captains and fixture list for 2010.
Tennis Section Facilities
CLTC offers its members:
- 8 acrylic hard courts (3 with floodlighting)
- 6 sand-filled synthetic grass courts (with floodlighting)
- 4 grass courts (from May through September; weather and
court condition permitting)
- 2 tarmac hard courts
- a practice wall
Courts are playable, weather permitting, from 9:00 a.m. - 9:30
p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. on
Sundays.
Court availability may be limited to weather, lighting or
special club events, such as club night/afternoon, inter-club
league matches or club tournaments.
We encourage members to take full advantage of the many
facilities, resources and activities that the Tennis Section
has to offer. Please feel free to speak to a member of the
main committee, club management or tennis chairman, John
Taylor, should you have any questions or comments regarding
tennis at CLTC-HCC.
Club Afternoon
Clubnight/afternoon
Get together with fellow tennis members on Wednesday evenings
and Saturday afternoons throughout the year.

Juniors
CLTC-HCC is proud of its programs and facilities which
encourage junior tennis palyers. These include:
Programs
Junior Leagues:To encourage youngsters to play more
competitive matches the Club runs in-house junior tennis
leagues for all standards.
Junior Club Night (May to mid-July and September to October
half term): Runs on Friday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
with occasional barbeques.
Junior Club Tournament: This is an annual event which
usually takes place in the weeks leading up to the October
half-term and is followed by the Junior Dinner when the awards
are presented.
Junior Teams: We have teams that take part in the summer
and winter Middlesex Junior National club leagues.
Adult/Junior Tournaments: Fun events once or twice a year
in which adults and juniors get to know and play with each other.

Court Booking
Child members may book courts in the normal way with their disks.
They enjoy equal booking rights at all times on articial grass
(Sportilan) 3, from 5:00 p.m. and at weekends on articial grass
(Sportilan) 2.
Junior members also have equal booking rights on HCC acrylic
courts 6, 7, and 8 at all times except when club night is being played.
Additionally, junior members have equal priority at all times on
HCC courts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 except when these are being used
for coaching.
These rights are subject to temporary suspension when, for
example, the availability of courst has been reduced by a Club
match in progress or by adverse weather.

REGULATIONS FOR THE BOOKING OF TENNIS COURTS

1. Courts are to be booked by time in periods of 45 minutes
(CLTC site) and 1 hour (HCC site), unless otherwise decreed
by the Committee. Any court which is vacant must be
booked before a member books an occupied court of the
same group. Groups are as follows:
- (a) Grass Courts
- (b) Artificial Grass
- (c) CLTC Acrylic 1,2,3
- (d) CLTC Acrylic 4,5
- (e) HCC Acrylic 6,7,8
- (f) HCC Hard 1,2,3,4,5

2. Booking is effected by placing Members' discs (with name
showing) on the appropriate hooks on the board, and writing
the time of commencement. No booking may be effected
until both or all four players are on the Club premises. If
there is no booking immediately preceding, the time of
booking shall commence as soon as the discs are hung, and
such time must be marked up, but a period of five minutes
shall be permitted for changing, where appropriate. The
only exception to this rule is where the court is unfit for play,
in which case the time must be posted as soon as play
starts.
3. Once a period of play has started on any court the players
occupying that court may not book again on that or any
other court, or after the time of the booking, until the period
of their booking has expired.
4. Interruption of play due to bad weather shall not affect the
time of expiry of the booking.
5. Under no circumstances may a Member use a disc other than
his (or her) own, or permit anyone to use his (or her) disc.
A Member's disc should be replaced on the disc board after
he/she has finished playing.

6. Reduced Singles Booking Time
Reduced Singles Booking Time will be introduced to accommodate as many
members on court as possible during times of undue
pressure on courts (e.g. when there are Club matches or
adverse weather conditions). At such times, the following
will apply:
- Acrylic Courts 1-5, Sportilan & Grass Courts (CLTC site)
- Doubles 45 minutes
- Singles 30 minutes
- Acrylic Courts 6-8 (HCC site)
- Doubles 1 hour
- Singles 45 minutes
- Hard Courts 1-5 (HCC site)
- Doubles 1 hour
- Singles 1 hour

introduced will play for the allotted time (i.e. not the reduced time)

7. Child Members
Red disc Child members enjoy equal booking rights on:
- CLTC Sportilan Court 3 at all times and on Sportilan Court 2 at weekends from 5pm
- All HCC Courts 1-8 at all times
Green disc Child members enjoy equal booking rights on:
- HCC Courts 1-5 only under the supervision of a parent who is also a member of the Club.

Head Professional - Chris is an experienced Part 3 tennis coach
and coaches adults and juniors at any level. He also runs junior
tennis schools and squads.
