'Planting trees to mitigate climate change, reduce poverty
and protect the biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon'

'Plant your Future' is a charity, which recognises the critical
importance of the Amazon Rainforest at both the local and global
level. Conservation of tropical rainforests is imperative. For
this to be achieved, alternative, more sustainable land-use
opportunities must be created through innovative technologies and
mechanisms, with empowerment of local people at the heart of all
such activities.
Our aim is to help facilitate reforestation with native tree
species and agroforestry around the city of Iquitos, in the
heart of the Peruvian Amazon. Currently, poor farmers around the
city of Iquitos are left with no alternative but to practice
unsustainable slash-and-burn agriculture to eek out a living.
This has led to high rates of deforestation, and worsening levels
of poverty over time as natural resources are degraded.
'Plant your Future' has been set up to provide poor farmers,
currently lacking resources, the opportunity to implement more
sustainable land use practices on their land, which will lead to
a better future for themselves and their families.
